As a lash artist, it is important to understand primer and cleanser’s role in your eyelash extension application process. While primer is not essential to use, the cleanser is a must-have product. Eyelash primer is a product that is used to prepare the natural lash for extensions. It may seem like a great way to increase adhesion between the natural lash and extension, but it can also be very dangerous when misused. Let’s explore why eyelash artists should use it on their clients.

What is lash cleanser?

The lash cleanser is an alcohol-free product that gently cleanses natural eyelashes without damaging moisture or causing irritation. It helps keep eyelashes healthy by removing dirt, dust, oil build-ups, makeup residue, bacteria build-ups, and other impurities from the surface of your lashes so that they remain clean in between applications. Additionally, it helps extend the life of your extensions by keeping them free from dirt, which can weaken their hold over time. It’s important to use only alcohol-free products on your lashes as alcohol can be too harsh for the delicate skin around the eyes and can cause irritation or dryness if used too frequently.

Why use cleanser?

The most important step in the application process regarding eyelash extensions is cleaning the natural lashes with a quality cleanser. A good lash cleanser should be gentle yet effective, and not contain harsh chemicals or irritants such as alcohol or sulphates. Removing dirt, oils, and any other residue from the natural lash will ensure that the adhesive is used to attach the bonds of the extensions. This crucial step will also help reduce irritation caused by dirt and bacteria on the natural lash line.

What is primer?

Lash primer is an alcohol-based product that prepares eyelashes before the lash application process. It helps to remove any oils or debris on the lashes so that the adhesive can properly adhere to them. This ensures a longer-lasting, secure bond between the extensions and natural lashes. It also helps to create a better surface for your adhesive to cure onto and improves adhesion strength. Many professionals prefer using lash primer because of its quick drying time and ability to easily remove makeup residue, oils, and dust from natural lashes before applying extensions.

What does lash primer do?

Primers are not essential for applying eyelash extensions; however, they can be beneficial if used correctly. The main purpose of primer is to help remove additional debris from the natural lashes and help create an even coating of glue along each individual lash before attaching extensions. When using primer, be sure to avoid products with too much alcohol content, as this can dry out both lashes and glue, resulting in weaker bonds between extension and natural lash. Additionally, primers with too low alcohol content in it, may not provide enough adhesion for strong lasting results.

Why not use lash primer?

The potential for damage

When applied correctly, lash primer helps eyelashes bond better with adhesive and creates a stronger, longer-lasting application. However, applying too close to the eyes or near sensitive areas can cause irritation or damage. For example, some types of primer contain alcohol which can dry out your lashes and make them brittle and prone to breaking. Additionally, some primers contain solvents that can break down the protective barrier around your eyes and allow irritants inside.

Improper application

Even when used correctly, there are risks associated with misusing lash primer. If a primer is used in excess or left on the lashes for too long before application, it can cause discolouration or weakening of both the adhesive and the lashes. It is important to apply just enough primer to work effectively without leaving any residue behind on the lashes or skin. Too much primer could lead to an allergic reaction, irritation, and other health issues such as blindness or eye damage due to improper use.

When it comes to eyelash extensions, proper cleansing techniques are essential for successful applications, while primer can be beneficial if used correctly. Lash artists must choose quality cleansers designed explicitly for eyelashes; these products should be free of harsh chemicals such as alcohol or sulphates as these can cause irritation or weaken bond strength between extension and natural lash. When choosing a primer, always make sure you opt for one with low levels of alcohol content; otherwise, the adhesive could dry out, resulting in weakened bonds between extension and natural lash, causing premature shedding or discomfort for your clients during wear time. With proper care and technique, your clients will have beautiful long-lasting results!
