Everything you need to know before getting a lash lift

Do you want to give a bit of va-va-voom to your natural lashes? Perhaps you have a holiday coming up, and you want perfect eyelashes without the effort of applying mascara?

Booking yourself in for a lash lift could be the answer to your beauty woes. If you’re looking for the lowdown on this ever-growing popular treatment, then look no further.

What is a lash lift?

Just like the concept of hair perming, eyelash lifts add a curl to your natural lashes. It’s a low maintenance process and relatively long-term solution which shapes your lash hairs from their base to their tip.

The process alters the shape of the natural lashes using a tiny curling rod and lifting solution, and when tinted, a lash lift can look like you have mascara on even when you’re barefaced. You can expect to experience minimal to zero discomforts when getting a lash lift – some people even find the process soothing and fall asleep on the table.

It is common, however, for clients to feel some discomfort at the start of the treatment when two silicon pads are applied to the lower lash line, but this is nothing to worry about and just prevents your bottom eyelashes from curling up too.

Overall, the most important thing to remember is that your treatment should always be performed by a qualified professional.

What is a keratin lash lift?

Just like a standard lift, a keratin lash lift aims to elongate your eyelashes from base to tip. The only difference is that the tiny curling rod is coated in a keratin formula – a protein often found in hair products – to smooth and strengthen your individual lash hairs.

The extra boost provided by the keratin treatment will serve as a building block for healthy, natural eyelashes. Not all salons will offer a keratin treatment, so check before you book-in, if you want to try out keratin for yourself.

How long does a lash lift last?

You can expect to enjoy your lash lift for six to eight weeks, which is about the same amount of time as a typical eyelash cycle and we bet you’ll be booking in for that next appointment as soon as you can.

How much is it cost?

A standard lash lift can cost you roughly anywhere between $60 and $200 per treatment, and this will depend on different factors, such as where you live and which salon you choose to go to. If the price seems too good to be true, do a little research into the salon to help work out if the standard of treatment on offer is acceptable or not.

Better yet, take recommendations from friends and people who have experienced a lash lift themselves to truly find an establishment to give you the treatment you deserve.

Can you still wear mascara when you have a lash lift?

Of course! Whilst your lash lift and an eyelash tint will provide you with epic looking natural lashes, sometimes you may want to jazz up your look with a coat of mascara.

Just make sure you clean your lashes thoroughly and avoid going to bed with any eye make-up still on to preserve your new beautiful lashes.

How do you maintain it?

You want your lash lift to last as long as possible, right? To make sure you get the most out of your beauty investment, avoid applying mascara for 48 hours after your treatment and hold back from touching your eyes for a full day.

This allows your new lashes enough time to settle into the perfect shape, without interruption. Professionals recommend using a lash oil once your eyelashes are set in place to keep them moisturised – think of this as being just like putting conditioner on your hair.

It is always important to remember to do your research the first time you try out any new treatment and finding a reputable salon should be your first port of call on your journey to brilliant lashes. If in doubt, abort the mission and try somewhere else.
